About the Workshop
Kalaniketan, a Hyderabad-based dance collective rooted in Kathak and founded in 1995, brings a unique exploration of stillness through movement at the Hyderabad Dance Festival 2026.
Led by Kavita Golecha and Nancy Das, the workshop draws from years of rigorous training, performance, and deep engagement with the classical form.
This Sitting Choreography Workshop focuses on discovering expression within limitation—working with intricate hand movements, abhinaya (expression), gaze, and upper-body dynamics. The session emphasizes detail, control, and the subtle intensity that defines classical storytelling.
Designed to be both inclusive and immersive, the workshop is open to participants of all ages and experience levels. It culminates in a short choreography that participants can carry forward, document, and share.
